Bauer BK Series Geared Motor for Sports Flooring Conveyor

A leading sports flooring manufacturer needed a reliable replacement drive solution for a conveyor at its plant in the Midwest. The 100 ft. long main line conveyor transports hardwood boards, at a rate of 15 ft./min., through the grading and sizing processes at the facility. The conveyor’s original chain and sprocket pulley drive was powered by a 3 hp hydraulic motor and power unit.

The plant operators wanted to replace the antiquated drive system with a more compact, energy efficient solution that also eliminated any potential hydraulic fluid leaks.

After a review of the conveyor application requirements, Bauer engineers recommended a BK Series right angle bevel geared motor for improved efficiency compared to the old hydraulic system. The Model BK70 supplied featured a 10 hp motor mated to a gearbox with a 91:1 ratio and a 30,535 in.lb. torque rating.

The BK unit, with a 3-7/16" hollow bore, was mounted directly to the conveyor’s 10.25" dia. head shaft roller. A special mounting bracket was fabricated to position the geared motor so it supports the headshaft.

Compact Bauer BK Series models are completely enclosed and sealed against dust and moisture. A hardened wear sleeve and spray ring ensure leak-free performance. These features were especially important for this dusty wood saw mill application.
